Off my list – photograph a Nikon

just moments ago I got to do something I've never been able to do before. to most people it's probably not anything that they would be all that proud off but for me I think it's pretty cool to be able to photograph a Nikon camera. Never before today have I really ever taken a picture with the word "Nikon" in it. I'm just so used to having canon or some other brand be in the pictures that I take of cameras and such.

She arrived… and is hopefully leaving soon…

The other day I got two packages. one I'd been waiting for for over a week, the other I'd bought a day or two before. The first was the one that truly mattered, I finally received my special new friend, Nikonos V.

Nikonos V with o-ring set

The first thing you notice about this lovely camera is it's weight, I tried comparing it to my holga but that just really didn't prove much, other than the fact that Holgas are respectably and amazingly light. Long story short, I tried it out and don't really have any results yet from my roll of film (have not had the time to go get any film developed lately) but soon after i set up an ebay auction for it, not really making much progress as of now but I'm okay with that, I've only sold one or two items on ebay before. That's all I've got for now. Thanks to anyone out there who even attempted reading this.

Back story -  click for the real point

A couple of weeks ago I went to NYC, for some reason we chose to drive but that is beside the point, and we went to B&H. (you can skip down If you don't want to read the rest of this part it's really not relevant to the discussion point.)
I really wasn't sure what I wanted to look at so I looked at just about every one of the cameras that were of any interest to me. Unlike the rest of the world that passed through there with an interest in photography, I didn't really feel all that comfortable taking pictures of random people. So i didn't really shoot all the ones I wanted but I really wasn't going to pay $1,600+ right then and there on any camera so it really didn't matter. I'm at a turning point in my life, in several ways, I'm going to college and it's about time I move on to my next digital camera. I was given a Canon xti several years ago, I'm a little irritated that I jumped on before liveview but I guess that's life. I'm not going to get rid of the camera, since it's really not worth much to anyone other than me. I'm also going off to college next year, as is part of that process I'll be graduating in a little over a month. besides the obviously expensive MacBook Pro I'm going to want a new digital camera. Yes I am aware of the fact that this is not how things work in the "real world" but I am going to art school for photography. I will only be doing film photography (I'm thinking about getting a Canon A-1 w/ a 50mm 1.4 or 1.8 if at all possible) So i'll wait until a year from now to see what's worth investing in since I think this will be the real deal for a while whatever I choose (canon or nikon; aps-c or full frame) So the real point is that I'm trying to decide what to get. I want to initially try for under $1,000.

The real question is
Do i want to wait and get an NEX 5 or get an olympus e-pl1 (after leaving B&H that was the camera I was going to get but then Sony had to come along.)

What I like

E-pl1 (i wouldn't get the E-p2)
it's been around people know how well it works in what areas and how not so good it is in other areas (all i really know of is AF but I don't know how concerned i should be knowing only the AF speed/abilities of my XTi)
many more lens options (if a Leica works on it I have a feeling anything can, though that could be really awful logic)
adapters definitely exist (i can get m42 om maybe Fd if i get that canon and i should be good)

Sony
I don't really know how much larger it is, but the APS-C sensor is probably better. (once again i'm a few generations behind so i don't really know what to expect e.g. iso, noise, actual image quality, and anything else that could be effected)
I also like the screen, though it looks really fragile, since I love taking pictures at low angles but hate that i have to put my face on the ground and force my eye to see through the eyepiece.

What I don't like

Olympus
the lack of and therefore cost of a viewfinder
plastic I think it's plastic (can't say I loved the feel of it sadly)

Sony
apparently the lenses are not that good, maybe.
it looks awkward especially with the zoom.

So really there was no point to this since no one is going to read this but in my honest opinion, I just want a canon. just make a canon SLR body without the mirror (though it wouldn't be an SLR technically) that would make things a lot easier. and if Sony and Olympus and Panasonic can make one or two pancake lenses so can canon. That's all I have to say.
